Cairo, Egypt. 7 June 1944. Australian soldiers, former prisoners of war (POWs) repatriated from Germany, and who are now awaiting their return to Australia were present with New Zealand troops at Maadi to welcome Peter Fraser, the New Zealand Prime Minister to the Middle East. Mr Fraser made a point of shaking hands all round, personally having a chat with individual soldiers.
