Hillas, Victor Arnold
Manuscript describing forced march from Konigshutte to Landshut as a prisoner of the Germans near the end of the Second World War. Describes constructing and using a sled to transport Red Cross food parcels, gifts of food from villagers, icy conditions, attacks from Allied aircraft while being transported by train, being freed by American forces. Author contends that this march was less horrific than those endured by prisoners of the Japanese. Photocopies of newspaper article and leaflet attached. Additional item: original German Second World War anti-Bolshevik propaganda leaflet distributed to British Commonwealth and United States former prisoners of war with the aim of recruiting forces to fight the Communist invaders. The verso of the leaflet is annotated in pencil by Victor Hillas.
