Description
An Australian soldier from 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR), sweeping the grass for mines. In the centre background smoke rises in the hills near Long Hai after the area was bombed during a B52 air strike. Note the striped hat band on the soldier's hat which was red to distinguish Australian soldiers from the Viet Cong who wore similar green hats.
