Near Xuan Loc, South Vietnam. 1967-11. Major Gordon James Murphy, Officer Commanding A Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, acting as a crew commander in a US M48A2 tank of the 1st Squadron, 11th Armoured Cavalry Regiment (11ACR) (US) on an operation. Major Murphy was on a brief detachment to the US unit in order to learn about the problems of using tanks in the area, as the decision to send Australian Centurion tanks to Vietnam had just been made by the Australian Army.
