Description
Portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) David Marsh, a member of ANGAU (Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit). Marsh led a party of searchers for six Japanese crewmen who landed three Japanese "Val" dive bomber aircraft on an allied beach in Papua during September 1942. The six airmen were subsequently discovered and shot dead while trying to escape. Marsh later became Papua New Guinea's last District Commissioner in 1975 and received the OBE.
