An informal group portrait of the crew of a North American B25 Mitchell bomber of No. 2 Squadron RAAF, discussing an operation with their rigger after returning from a raid against the Japanese in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Left to right: 433732 Flight Sergeant Roderick Alister MacGregor of Tamworth, NSW; 7246 Flying Officer Alban Keith Morrell of Northam, WA; 431510 Flight Sergeant Bernard Michael O'Brien of Carnegie, Vic; 402097 Flight Lieutenant Edward Melville White of Ashbury, NSW, and 73239 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Walter Mailey McCrossin of Bondi, NSW. All of the above airmen, excepting LAC McCrossin were accidentally killed when returning to Australia on a repatriation aircraft (Mitchell B25 A47-37) which went missing on 14 August 1945 somewhere over the Arafura Sea. They have no known graves and are listed on the Lae Memorial in Papua New Guinea.
