Description

Collection relating to VX39735 Private Walter Dunstan Hicks, of Gull Force, 2/21 Bn. Recollection of an air raid by 22 Sqn RAAF on Ambon Island, 4 October 1944. The writer was a prisoner (POW) of the Japanese at Tantoei POW camp and witnessed the raid. His account rectifies errors in contemporary accounts relating to type of aircraft, damage caused, and danger to POWs. Includes sketch of Boston Bomber which took part in the raid. Added to this collection in 2009 were further written accounts, and assorted papers and maps, relating to the operations of the 2/21 Bn and Hicks' experience as a POW.
