Description
Bay of Biscay. C. 1943-05. A Sunderland aircraft of No. 461 Squadron RAAF before attempting a take-off which resulted in damage to the hull and forced the aircraft to land on Angle airfield near Pembroke Dock, Wales, on its return to base. The Free French destroyer (left) directed by a Halifax aircraft, put off a whaler to rescue survivors from the Sunderland which also had on board men rescued from a Whitley bomber aircraft and the first Sunderland (which sank) sent out to rescue them.
