Pieta Baidoa
Description
Depicts a silhouette of a mother holding a child taken from 'Time' magazine , which lists the names of many countries effected by war, such as Somalia, Kurdistan, Germany, Vietnam, Vukova and Malaya etched over it. A quote from Virgil is also included ; 'Where in the world is there a country...unreached by our suffering'. The layout of the work is influenced by Michaelangelo's sculpture 'Pieta' of Christ lying dead in his mother's arms.
