No 5 Mills Bomb grenade
Description
Oval shaped hand grenade with cast iron body featuring external grooves. The firing mechanism consists of a striker, lever, spring and safety pin which are attached through a central chamber which houses the detonator.
History / Summary
The No 5 hand grenade, Mills Pattern was introduced into service in May 1915. It was the standard British Army hand grenade until replaced by the Number 6 Mills Pattern in 1917.
