Hanau, Germany. C. 1945-04. This waste of rubble, with but a few gaunt walls left standing, was Hanau, a centre of precision industries and an important railway town. An attack by RAF Bomber Command on the night of 1945-03-18 effectively blocked road and rail communications for the German army.
