Description
54224 Private (Pte) Christopher Leonard Douglas on the rifle range firing an L1A1 self loading rifle (SLR). Pte Douglas, a Western Australian Aboriginal, enlisted in the Army on 27 August 1957, and served with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), 5RAR and later in Vietnam with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV). He was discharged on 27 September 1977, having served for 20 years and attaining the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (with palms) and the United States Meritorious Unit Commendation. Note, he has a tattoo on his upper arm, marking his allegiance to his home state, WA, showing the state symbol of the black swan.
