Mauser Model 1934 Pistol: Sergeant Leo Alexander Howard, 2/2nd Field Regiment
Mauser Model 1934 semi automatic pistol. Frame stamped on the left Waffenfabrik Mauser A-G Obendorf an Mauser Patent and the trade mark MAUSER in a rectangle. The grips are checkered light wood and held to the frame with one screw bolt.
VX1048 Sergeant Leo Alexander Howard was born in Albury in 1919. He enlisted in the AIF in November 1939 into the 2/2nd Field Regiment and served in the Middle East from April 1940. In 1941 he served in Greece and then Crete, where he acquired this pistol from a dead German paratrooper.
He left Crete in June and continued serving in the Middle East with the 2/2nd Field Regiment until August 1942 when he was transferred to the 2/8th Field Regiment. He returned to Australia in February 1943 and later served in the South West Pacific.
