Gear lever position plate from Mark IV tank 'Adventuress'
Description
Gear lever position plate from a Mark IV tank. The plate is cast brass, and features the number '2' over the word 'HIGH' Both sides of the late are pierced for screw attachment. There is no evidence of paint on the item.
History / Summary
This plate was taken from British tank "Adventuress" near the Menin road, where it was knocked out on 31 July 1917. The plate would originally have been fastened to the inside rear face of one of the tank's two gun sponsons, above the secondary gearbox opening.
