Description

Collection relating to the International Force East Timor (INTERFET) service of L140409 Lieutenant (later Lieutenant Commander) Tamara Sloper-Harding, Headquarters INTERFET, Dili, 1999-2000.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of two folders containing letters, documents and ephemera relating to Sloper-Harding's deployment to East Timor as an intelligence officer in INTERFET Headquarters. Folder 1 includes Sloper-Harding's Australian Defence Force-issued East Timor Handbook, in which she has made annotations, an unused beer ration ticket, and a copy of the 1 November 1999 issue of the newsletter, "Daily Combat Wombat", which contains a mention of Sloper-Harding and mess dress regulations. Folder 2 contains an order of service booklet for Sloper-Harding's wedding in September 1999, as well as five letters and an email sent to Sloper-Harding from her parents and friends during her deployment. Sloper-Harding's parents, Dannie and Commodore Graham Sloper, discuss home news, their concerns for Sloper-Harding's welfare, her deployment, and her future career prospects in the Royal Australian Navy. The remaining letters cover the sufferings of the East Timorese, Sloper-Harding's wedding and deployment so soon after, and contain well wishes.

Folio 1 of 1 - Contains an oversize children's drawing made for Sloper-Harding by her goddaughter, Elena Wolski, while Sloper-Harding was deployed with INTERFET.
