Caption on the back of a copy of the original photograph reads `This looks like a picture of the 14 Australian sisters together in South Africa', referring to the fourteen nurses in the second contingent of New South Wales medical personnel who left Sydney on 1900-01-17. Middle row seventh from the left is Sister Mary A. (Bessie) Pocock.
