Interview with commander of Anzac Battalion DPR/TV/1132
Description
Australian and New Zealand soldiers of the combined Anzac battalion, in South Vietnam, returned to their base at Nui Dat recently from the first major operation. The Anzac battalion is made up of three companies of the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, and two New Zealand companies. The infantrymen had been on Operation Lavarack, in the northern border areas of Phuoc Tuy Province. They began their hunt for the enemy on May 31 and in the next month, killed 99 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Regulars in 89 contacts. The Battalion Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel David Butler of Townsville, Qld, was interviewed by Army Public Relations Officer, Major Ernest Ross-Smith after the operation was over.
