106th Field Workshops recovery team DPR/TV/1105
The 106th Field Workshops, based at Nui Dat, is equipped with an armoured personnel carrier fitted with a crane, which is driven into combat areas to repair damaged carriers and tanks on the spot. During recent operations against Viet Cong units in Phuoc Tuy Province, a number of enemy mines have been detonated by tanks and carriers. As soon as the area around the damaged armoured vehicle has been secured the field repair team, carrying their tools and replacement parts aboard the modified carrier, move into the field. All members of the team, including the driver and the crew commander (gunner) are qualified tradesmen. Because of the importance of armoured vehicles to the Task Force effort, it is imperative that any damaged vehicles are repaired as quickly as possible, and return to operational duty in the field. (Identified personnel: Craftsman Allen Butler of Blacktown, NSW; Cpl Brian Carlyle of Glenelg, SA; Cpl Frank Owen of Puckapunyal, Vic).
