Description
Depicts the artist on the right, wearing a pair of Night Vision goggles while on patrol with Australian peacekeepers, Delta Company, in Baidoa, Somalia. On the left is an elderly Somalian man chewing a plant leaf. Of this image Gittoes wrote; 'I tried the Night Vision goggles again tonight...they turn the night into a greenish monochrome where people appear like moving negative film. It resembles early fuzzy television. People through the goggles lose their humanity - becoming like synthetic computer constructs...In the Khat market and streets the Somali men are out of their heads from chewing their narcotic plants'.
