Description
Typed manuscript (321 pages) titled `The War Cruises of HMAS Melbourne & Sydney, 1914-1918', prepared for the Navy Board in 1918 by Henry J Brennand (Staff Surgeon, HMAS Melbourne) and Eric Kingsford-Smith (Assistant Paymaster, HMAS Sydney). Describes the voyages and actions of both these ships during the war, places visited, preparation for war, Sydney-Emden encounter, patrolling in Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. This copy of the manuscript was given to Surgeon Rear-Admiral William James Carr, who was a surgeon aboard HMAS Melbourne during 1914-1917. Manuscript cover contains annotation 'To Dr WJ Carr as a memento of three years companionship in many parts of the world. HJ Brennand'.
