All the fine young men: My stepfather, Frank, was in the same unit as Eric
Description
This work illuminates how great events in history, such as war, affect the intimate and private parts of a family's history. It contains two sections: screen printed images on paper in the background, and a glass layer over the top with text etched into the glass using graphite. The screen printed background includes an arrangement of two Australian newspaper headings along the top edge, 'JAP CRUELTY HORRIFIES WORLD' and 'PRISONERS OF WAR...', images of a holiday nap, some barbed wire fence and a Certificate of Discharge in the centre, and a map in the lower left corner. The glass overlay contains a story of the artist's stepfather, and his time spent as a prisoner of war.
