Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a letter Thorn wrote to his mother from France on 23 July 1916. He writes that they are on the eve of a very great battle and knows not whether he will be alive tomorrow. Thorn conceeds that this letter may be his last, but assures his mother that he has no fear and they will meet again in the after life.
Corporal Reginald Samuel Thorn was killed in action during the Battle of Pozieres on 24 July 1916, the day after he wrote this letter to his mother. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial in France. Thorn's elder brother, Private Arthur Thorn, is also commemorated on the memorial. Arthur was killed in action on 5 November 1916 while serving with the 27th Battalion.
