Log book and papers of Lynnton Ainsley Martin, 1941-1943
Log book and papers relating to the Second World War service of 408816 Flying Officer Lynnton Ainsley Martin, No. 2 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.
Martin’s log book contains records of the flights he made between 28 July 1941 and 8 September 1943, including details such as the type of aircraft flown, crew and passengers, time, and purpose of the flight. Some of Martin’s flights included training flights, conversion flights, and operational flights such as bombing operations, armed reconnaissance, patrols, and searches.
The final entry of this log book is dated 8 September 1943, when Martin failed to return from an operation near the Tanimbar Islands, Dutch East Indies. His aircraft was shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft fire, and Martin died in the crash.
Also included in this collection is Martin’s pilot training card, and a hyper focal distance table used in photography.
