Description

Self portrait of left hand flying pilot pilot Captain Jason Otter aboard Australian Army Chinook A15-201 at the Landing Zone near Deh Chopan Forward Operating Base (FOB). The FOB can be seen out the aircraft window, located approximately 500-1000m closer to the high ground. One of a series of images captured by Capt Otter during an eight hour CSS Mission to Zabul Provence, Afghanistan known as the Aqua Ring Route. The mission flown in A15-201 included a second US CH-47D and escort AH64 Apache. The Aqua Ring departed Kandahar for the Forward Arming and Refuelling Point (FARP) at Qalat, then to the outlying Forward Operating Bases of Baylough, Deh Chopan and Mizan before returning to Kandahar. The mission coincided with High Density Altitude Training for Lieutenant Ryan Bullock and a flying milestone of 5000 hours flight time for Capt Otter.
