Germany. 1945-03-24. Fitters, riggers and armourers of No. 174 Squadron RAF worked all night to put up the first dawn patrol which 2nd Tactical Air Force flew from its new airfield in Germany during the Rhine crossings. First RAAF pilot flying from the airfield was 420617 Flying Officer D. H. Gardner, a rocket firing Typhoon pilot from Aberdeen, NSW.
