Diary relating to service of Major Charles Patrick Tracey, 1944
Description
Diary relating to service of NX70508 Major Charles Patrick Tracey, 2/26 Battalion, Second World War. The diary covers the period between 1 January 1944 and 31 December 1944, covering Tracey’s time as a prisoner of war at Changi. The daily entries detail camp activities such as gardening, the various available entertainments including concerts and lectures, sports, the creation of nominal roles, and the checking of troop diaries. Tracey notes with concern the delays in receiving mail, the lack of food and other supplies, the development of thieving as a result of the lack of food, and the continued prevalence of illnesses. The diary also includes a list of books and recipes.
