Parramore, Thomas Ingle (Flying Officer, b.1912 - d.1993)
Collection relating to the landscaping services provided by 64146 Flying Officer Thomas 'Tom' Ingle Parramore, Australian War Memorial, 1939-1947.
Collection consists of communication between F/O Parramore and various members involved in the design and creation of the Australian War Memorial, including Charles Edwin Woodrow Bean; Lt-Col John Linton Treloar; Tasman Hudson Eastwood Heyes; and John Crust. The documents contain correspondence regarding the original commissioning of F/O Parramore by Lt Col Treloar in 1939 to design proposals for the treatment of the Memorial grounds, communications with John Crust the chief architect of the Memorial, and continue until around 1942 when F/O Parramore enlisted in the RAAF and his work ceased. These documents discuss logistics such as visits to Canberra, working ideas such as plants that F/O Parramore was considering, and feedback from the Memorial's board regarding the models presented to them by F/O Parramore. The last few items in the collection are correspondence between CEW Bean and F/O Parramore in the years immediately following the Second World War and discuss the possibility of a rejuvenation of the project that was put on hold owing to the war effort. Also included is a reference written by CEW Bean for F/O Parramore in 1947.
F/O Parramore's designs were later used to inspire the final layout of the Memorial's grounds as developed in the years following the War.
