[Sound recording] Oh! It's a lovely war!
Description
Recording of the song titled, 'Oh! It's a lovely war!', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by J P Long with music composed by M Scott. Produced by Chris Latham, with Rohan Thatcher as vocalist (baritone), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Wesley Music Centre, Canberra, on 8 May 2016. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is almost the most iconic song after Tipperary. It is bitingly ironic and is a demonstration of resilience - the ability to sing and laugh about something but continue doing it. It is an interesting song for the cultural phenomenom.'
