Presentation plaque: Task Group Taji V, Iraq
Moulded copper with antique finish presentation plaque in the shape of a round dish. The dish is embossed with images and features landmarks of ancient Iraq, including the lamassu of Nimrud; the minaret of the Great Mosque of Samarra; the Gate of Ishtar; the Lion of Babylon and the monument of Hammurabi. A metal fold out stand is attached on the reverse side.
Presentation plaques were gifted in appreciation to the Australian and New Zealand training teams by the Iraqi Security Forces at graduation ceremonies. This plaque was displayed in the Taji Task Group V Headquarters in Iraq. It was collected during an Australian War Memorial curatorial deployment to the Middle East in 2017.
Task Group Taji was an Australian and New Zealand training contribution to the US led Operation Inherent Resolve. From 2015 to 2020 the Task Group trained over 47,000 Iraqi troops and law enforcement personnel and increased the capability of the Iraqi Security Forces, as well as training and assisting the Iraq School of Infantry.
