Portrait of 420920 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Barry Alan Croft, wireless air gunner of Gulgong, NSW, a member of No. 299 Squadron RAF, an Allied Expeditionary Air Force glider-towing squadron. Flt Sgt Croft was lost on an operation on 5/6 June 1944 to drop 20 paratroopers over Normandy, France, when the Short Stirling aircraft LT819 was lost, along with all crew [including Australians pilot Flt Sgt Leslie Gilbert and Pilot Officer Albert Lance Coates) and the remaining nine paratroopers.
