Manuscript relating to the First World War service of 1288 Private Harold Sutton Shapcott, 42nd Infantry Battalion, 1934.

This typescript novel by Harold Sutton Shapcott titled 'War Babies' is based on the author's personal experiences during the First World War. The manuscript was entered into the Centenary War Novel Competition conducted by the Victorian branch of the Returned Sailors' and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia during 1933-34. [The manuscript is complete, however, please note that page numbers 117 and 130 have been omitted by the transcriber in error]

The manuscript includes a valediction by the author to the Australian War Memorial dated 15 January 1936, and instruction for it be dedicated to his parents if published.
