Handmade dagger and sheath
Description
Spear point, double edged dagger hand shaped from sheet steel. The hilt has a plastic grip and multiple inlays secured by tang buttressed by brass plug. The scabbard is leather with nylon stitching.
History / Summary
This dagger was recovered by Australian peacekeeping forces operating in support of the United Nations Operations in Somalia. The dagger is locally produced from scrap metal and plastic materials salvaged form a variety of sources. Although the materials are of inferior quality, the craftsmanship is to a reasonable standard considering the lack of mechanised tools.
