Description
Photograph of the rail bridge over the Rhine at Bonn as captured through the bomb-aim of an Avro Lancaster by 430661 Warrant Officer (WO) Geoffrey Vernon Leicester. WO Leicester enlisted on 26 February 1943 and served with the Royal Air Force’s elite Pathfinder force in 156 Squadron (8 Group Pathfinder) flying Vickers Wellingtons and subsequently Avro Lancasters. The Pathfinder Force played a major role in Bomber Command’s European offensive as target-marking squadrons. They secured and marked areas with incendiary bombs and flares to increase the accuracy of bomber squadrons. Warrant Officer Leicester was discharged on 3 November 1945.
