Diary relating to the First World War service of Colonel Rupert Major Downes, Desert Mounted Corps. This diary written between 5 March and 29 July 1918 are the original pages taken out of a Army carbon copy book. This version is missing the pages for the period 16 May to 17 June 1918.
This diary covers: his work as the Deputy Director of Medical Services of the Desert Mounted Corps listing the people he talks to and the places he visits; the scoping and the setting up of the headquarters near Beit Nabala; his thoughts on the withdrawal from Es Salt; his descriptions of the sites he sees in around Jerusalem and Bethlehem; His experience with having dental work done and his description of the battle of Abu Tellul.
