Description

Whether its Taronga Park in Sydney or on the other side of our world in Saigon, the zoo is always a good place to spend an afternoon. Recently a group of Vietnamese children saw the wonders of nature and gazed in awe at animals from other parts of a world untouched by war, when they were the guests of Australian soldiers from Headquarters, Australian Force Vietnam, at the Saigon Zoo. Elephants were given a lot of close attention by the children, but the Diggers probably took the greatest pleasure in showing off the animal which is most closely associated with Australia - the kangaroo...and don't let that spelling fool you! The Australian soldiers in Saigon - and in all parts of Phuoc Tuy Province and other areas where our men are employed - have made the entertainment and welfare of children and families part of their daily life. And when a small child can see a bear performing in its reserve, or a monkey swinging from a vine rope, the war that is raging in Vietnam seems just a little further away.
