Description

The Commanding General of the United States' Continental Army Command, General Paul L. Freeman Junior, will arrive in Australia on Tuesday, February 28. During his visit, which will end on March 5, he will tour a number of Army establishments to see Australian military training methods and techniques. On his way to Australia, General Freeman paid a flying visit to Vietnam, where he met the Commander of 1st Australian Task Force, Brigadier S.C. Graham, and the Commander of the 1st Field Regiment, RAA, Lieutenant-Colonel D.R.Begg. He was shown over the Tassk Force area, and from the top of an elevated feature at Nui Dat, saw prominent landmar\ks in the vicinity, including 20-mile distant Vung Tau, where the Australian Logisitic Support Force is based. The hill at Nui Dat is used as an Australian artillery observation post, and General Freeman was briefed on local artillery procedures, and on the current operational situation. He later visited other Allied units in Vietnam.
