Description

After two days of determined defence in hilly scrub covered country around the enemy base of Manifold during exercise "Barra Winga", Queensland Cong forces were forced out of their base camp, which they had named Ban Lea. Troops of the British 3rd Parachute Battalion patrolled the village during the night and just after dawn mounterd the attack through it, while troops of the 7 RAR cleared the high ground nearby. The Red Berets met little resistance during their sweep through the village, as the enemy forces had withdrawn to mangrove country north of the village. The 3 Para men were supported by Saladin armoured cars and armoured personnel carriers of the 1st Cavalry Regiment.
