Description
Luger LP08 Artillery semi automatic pistol. Action marked DWM 1917. All parts have matching serial numbers except for the magazine which is stamped 8470 and has a piece missing from the wood base. Two piece checkered wood grips and has a T section slide on the back strap for the wooden butt stock.
History / Summary
This pistol was captured by Lieutenant John Neville Fraser, Royal Field Artillery, at Ypres in 1918. Lieutenant Fraser was the father of Malcolm Fraser, Australian Prime Minister (1975 - 1982), and was student at Oxford University, England at the outbreak of the First World War. He enlisted in King Edwards Horse 25 August 1914 as Trooper but was commissioned 2 Lieutenant 26 November 1914 with the RFA. Returned to Australia January 1919.
