Description
"Flip side war" collection of anecdotes covering Mr McDonald's service during the 1939-1945 war with the Royal Australian Navy. Mr McDonald joined the Royal Australian Navy Reserve in 1938 as an Ordinary Signalman. Called up on outbreak of war, served on HMAS "Sydney", then the destroyers "Stuart", "Vampire", "Voyager", "Vendetta" and "Waterhen" (on booard when she sank). Served on HMAS "Perth" before she sank; commissioned in 1942, joined "Echuca" then "Shepparton. Worked on surveys in New Guinea and North Australia waters until appointed to command "Polaris".
