Description

LABUAN, NORTH BORNEO. 1945-11-03. A SERIOUS SHORTAGE OF RUBBER TYRES WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CREATED TRANSPORT PROBLEMS FOR THE JAPANESE BEFORE THE SURRENDER. BUT THERE WAS NO SHORTAGE IN THE OTHER CAMP, AND EVIDENCE OF THIS WILL BE GIVEN BY NO. 81 (FIGHTER) WING RAAF WHEN IT MOVES TO JAPAN WITH ITS RESERVES OF TYRES FOR ALL VEHICLES. NEW SOUTH WALES AIRMEN 445773 LEADING AIRCRAFTMAN (LAC) JACK DAWSON OF ASHFIELD, AND 165229 LAC ALAN CONNELL OF TUMUT, ARE PICTURED STACKING THE TYRES AT A LABUAN STORES UNIT.
