KURE, JAPAN. 1946-08-10. APPLYING THE BRAKE DURING LAYING OF COMMUNICATION CABLE BETWEEN KURE AND ETA JIMA, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF 34 AUSTRALIAN LINE SECTION, AUSTRALIAN CORPS OF SIGNALS, BCOF. THE BRAKE CONSISTS OF A PIECE OF 2" X 3" PINE WIRED AT ONE END TO THE WOODEN FRAME. PRESSURE ARRESTS THE FLOW OF THE CABLE. NOTE THE FRAME WHICH CONSISTS OF TWO PINE SAPLINGS TO WHICH TWO LIGHT RUNNERS HAVE BEEN LASHED, TOGETHER WITH A MOUNT FOR THE PULLEY WHEEL.
