HOW THE WAR ENDED AT RAAF'S MOST WESTERLY BASE IN THE SOUTH WEST PACIFIC AREA. 212170 FLIGHT LIEUTENANT WALLY MILLS DFC, PAPATOETOE, NZ, FAMED CATALINA PILOT OF NO. 113 AIR-SEA RESCUE FLIGHT RAAF, WAS THE PILOT OF THE LAST RAAF AIRCRAFT TO RETURN FROM AN OPERATIONAL MISSION. DURING HIS CURRENT TOUR HE FLEW 160 MISSIONS, MAINLY COVERING FIGHTER AND BOMBER STRIKES, WAS AIRBORNE 700 HOURS AND PICKED UP FIFTEEN PILOTS WHO HAD BEEN SHOT DOWN. HIS PET MONKEY, TOJO, WAS HIS CONSTANT COMPANION.
