Description
Aitape, North-East New Guinea. United States General Walter Krueger, Commander US 6th Army, talks with RAAF officers Air Commodore F. R. W. Scherger, Wing Commander W. A. C. Dale and Group Captain C. D. Candy about operating Australian and American aircraft from the Tadji airstrip. Within forty-two hours No 62 Works Wing RAAF had this airfield ready for the Kittyhawk aircraft of No 78 Fighter Wing RAAF after its capture from the Japanese during the drive against Hollandia. In the background Lockheed P38 Lightning aircraft of the US Army Air Force are lined up on the airfield.
