Sergeants Volunteer Pattern 1840 Carbine
Description
Sergeants Carbine Volunteer Pattern 1840. Lock marked John Wiggan 13. Barrel has a London proof mark and 13 stamped on the rear tang. It is fitted with front and rear post sights. Stock marked 13 one side of the butt and crown over F on the other. The barrel is held in place by two 'key' pins as fitted to the Pattern 1842 musket and it has the Hanovarian bayonet catch in the brass fore-end cap. The trigger guard has a downward extension as fitted to the New Land Pattern Sergeants carbine of 1832. This weapon is complete with an original ramrod.
