Arisaka Type 44 Cavalry Carbine
Arisaka Type 44 Cavalry Carbine. Blued steel action and polished bolt that has a knurled cocking piece. Full wood stock and top handguard. It has a folding bayonet with a fixed hook quillon attached near the muzzle and spring loaded lock button. The sling swivels are mounted on the left side of the weapon and there is a small trap in the butt plate for a cleaning rod (missing). The action is marked on the top with a chrysanthemum and on the right side with the trade symbol of the Kokura Arsenal next to the serial number.
This weapon is similar to the earlier cavalry carbine of 1905. It was donated to the Memorial in the 1920's by the Japanese Government as part of the uniform and equipment representing a Japanese cavalry trooper of the World War One period.
