Imperial German Officer's Sword and Scabbard
Imperial German Officer's sword and scabbard. The silver plated steel hilt has a D shape stirrup guard with a heraldic shield surmounted by a fire helmet on the langets. The back strap has a leaf pattern and the grips are black sharkskin bound with silver wire. A leather sword strap with three rows of silver wire and a silver and black ball knot is attached to the guard. The straight, nickel plated blade has a single fuller on each side to within 260 mm from the double edged spear point and the ricasso has the trade mark of a squirel over CE. The nickel plated scabbard has two loose hanger rings on bands at 210 mm and 70 mm from the throat.
Due to the existence of the fire helmet on the guard of the sword, it is believed that this sword is a Prussian Fire Official's sword.
