German Naval Officer Sword and Scabbard : Imperial German Navy
German Naval Officer Sword and Scabbard. The gilt/brass hilt has a guard with two folding sections. On the front section there is an Imperial German crown over a fouled anchor and the back section clips to the scabbard. A silver/gilt sword knot with black and red threads running through it is attached to the guard. The pommel is a lions head with one green and one red eye and the grip is brass wire bound over ivory coloured plastic. The slightly curved blade with a single fuller is etched on both sides for half the length having a floral design incorporating an anchor in the centre panel and a sailing ship near the ricasso which is stamped with the manufacturer's symbol of a man wielding a hammer above P.O&Co. The scabbard is black leather with three gilt/brass fittings of a chape, locket and centre section.
