GRAVES OF AUSTRALIAN PRISONERS OF WAR WHO DIED AT TANTOEI PRISONER OF WAR (POW) CAMP. AT FIRST CROSSES WHERE MADE TO MARK EACH NEW GRAVE BUT TOWARDS THE END THOSE THAT REMAINED WERE TOO WEAK AND EXHAUSTED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE BUT ERECT A WOODEN STAKE TO WHICH THEY ATTACHED A TIN TAG BEARING THE SURNAME OF THE DECEASED POW. THE TAG ON THE STAKE IN THE LEFT FOREGROUND IS THAT OF VX25024 PRIVATE ALLAN CLARKE BOLDING (WONTHAGGI, VIC) 2/21ST BATTALION, WHO DIED OF ILLNESS ON 1945-07-02. HIS BROTHER VX25018 PRIVATE MURRAY ARNOLD BOLDING (WONTHAGGI, VIC) OF THE SAME UNIT DIED OF ILLNESS THREE DAYS LATER AT THE CAMP. (PHOTOGRAPHER LT F. R. MUSSON)
