WEWAK AREA, NEW GUINEA, 1945-07-14. SAPPERS OF 2/14 FIELD COMPANY, ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ENGINEERS, ATTACHED 2/8 INFANTRY BATTALION, VIEW THE RESULTS OF THEIR WORK. A JAPANESE BUNKER NEAR THE SUMMIT OF "THE BLOT" WAS DESTROYED WITH A BLAST BOMB MADE WITH A HAND GRENADE ATTACHED TO A SAL VITAL TIN FULL OF APPROXIMATELY ONE POUND OF AMMONAL. THE COMPANY CLAIMS THE BOMB TO BE ITS OWN INVENTION. IDENTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE:- PTE J. GROCH (2); PTE P. CADDELL (4).
