Robertson, Anthony (Sergeant, b.1967)
Collection relating to the Operation Anode (Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands [RAMSI]) service of 8243687 Corporal (later Sergeant) Anthony Robertson, Solomon Islands. Robertson was a Section Commander during his deployment between 2009 and 2010, as part of Combined Task Force 635 (CTF 635), Rotation 20. The collection consists of a diary, notebooks, maps, newspaper clippings, and other Department of Defence ephemera.
Wallet 1 contains a Department of Defence Field Notebook used as a diary kept by Robertson between October 2009 and January 2010, in which he recorded accounts of patrols, working with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), activities during local leave passes (SWANREQs), and his interactions with local Solomon Islanders. These range from providing assistance to altercations. One entry records Robertson providing sweets and toys to children, another records having rocks thrown at his patrol.
Wallet 2 contains six Department of Defence Message Notebooks dating from the 20 September 2009 to the 5 April 2010, used by Robertston to record operational and patrol notes.
Wallet 3 contains maps and ephemera related to the Solomon Islands and RAMSI. These include a street directory of Honiara produced by the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation, and two maps or Honiara produced by the Directorate of Strategic Military Geographic Information. A publication titled 'RAMSI Update' published in 2009 provides information on the successes of the Regional Assistance Mission. Inside were placed a number of sheets of Solomon Islands postage stamps. The wallet also contains three newspaper pages, two from Army: The Soldiers' Newspaper, and one from the Solomon Star. An article in Army relates to the successes of RAMSI street patrols, while the page of the Solomon Star presents the results of the 2010 Solomon Islands General Election.
Wallet 4 contains ephemera and publications produced by the Australian Defence Force. These include language guides to Solomons Pijin, a home coming guide, a heat injury risk management guide, and a pamphlet titled 'How to stay healthy in the Solomon Islands'.
Wallet 5 contains material restricted under the Archives Act 1983.
